The Pfizer New Haven Clinical Research Unit is conducting a clinical trial of a study vaccine for flu. This study will look at the effects of the study vaccine compared to another vaccine which is used as a control.

Vaccines are one of the greatest public health advances of all time. Similar to clean water and good sanitation, vaccines safeguard our communities and help people stay well, productive, and active.

While several illnesses have been partially or fully eliminated by vaccines, there is still much work to be done for other infections worldwide, like influenza or flu which currently affects about a billion people annually. By joining a vaccine clinical trial at the PCRU, you could be part of the next vaccine breakthrough.

What to expect

If this study may be a fit for you, you’ll be invited to a screening visit at our facility in New Haven, CT. If you qualify for the study, screening and dosing may happen on the same day, or there may be a period of up to 28 days before dosing.

If you choose to participate, you will receive a single dose of either the study vaccine or another vaccine, administered as an injection in the muscle of your upper arm. You will have a follow-up visit about 1 week later. Then about 3 weeks after the first dose, you will return to the PCRU to receive a second dose of the study vaccine or a placebo, again administered by injection into the upper arm. You will then have 4 more follow-up visits scheduled over the next ~6 months. The schedule for these will be provided to you when you schedule your appointment.

It is very important to complete each visit on time, so please let our team know if you have any issues with the schedule as soon as possible.

Throughout the study, staff will closely monitor your health status and collect data, such as the levels of immune markers in your blood. You may also be asked to complete an electronic diary to log things like how you feel and your daily temperature in between trips to the unit.

*When screening and first study dose occur separately, the additional visit will be compensated at a rate of $300.

A first step as you consider this study is to answer some questions about your health and medical history. If your answers show the study might be a good fit for you, you may choose to submit your information to us.

Your answers to these initial questions will only be linked to you if your responses indicate that you may be eligible to participate in this study and you choose to share your contact information with the study team.
