The Pfizer Clinical Research Unit in New Haven is conducting a clinical trial of a study drug for certain inflammatory conditions. This study will look at the effects of the study drug plus an enzyme (meant to improve absorption) when given together as a single injection beneath the skin.
This study is looking at a potential treatment for certain inflammatory conditions – diseases where excess or ongoing swelling and irritation are a primary factor – including atopic dermatitis (AD; eczema), asthma, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
AD is one of the most common inflammatory skin conditions. It causes a rash, itching, and can negatively affect patients’ emotional well-being. Asthma and COPD are long-term respiratory conditions related to inflammation in the lungs and airways. They involve symptoms such as shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, chest tightness, coughing, and wheezing.
Patients with these conditions often still face symptoms despite current treatments and may benefit from other medication options. Learn how you can help patients as a healthy volunteer below.

This study is seeking healthy adult volunteers, meaning that the participants will not have the condition being studied and are in overall good health. In addition to the criteria listed, participants must meet the following requirements:
- Willing to receive an injection of the study drug
- Willing and able to come to our facility in New Haven, CT for all required visits*
- Willing and able to comply with all study procedures

Each clinical study has its own guidelines for who can participate, called eligibility criteria. However, only the research study staff can determine if you qualify to enroll in the study.
What to expect
If this study may be a fit for you, you’ll be invited to a screening visit at our facility in New Haven, CT. If you qualify for the study, there may be a period of up to 28 days before dosing.
If you choose to participate, you will first stay at our facility for 5 nights in a row. The morning after you arrive, you will receive a single dose of the study drug mixed with an enzyme that is meant to improve absorption. These will be given together as one subcutaneous (SC) injection (i.e. delivered by a needle inserted beneath the skin). You will then remain at the PCRU until the 5th morning.
After this initial stay, you will be asked to return to the PCRU for 8 separate visits over the course of about 5 months. These visits will be outpatient, meaning you will not stay overnight.
Throughout the study, staff will closely monitor your health status and collect data, such as the levels of the study drug in your blood.
This study requires you to stay at the PCRU for the entire duration of each inpatient stay unless you choose to withdraw. You can learn more about what to expect during your participation by browsing our FAQ section.
